THE IDEA

Death is a taboo subject in Chinese culture, in fact, the visiting of a cemetery is just as taboo. They believe that we must respect the dead greatly, and fear the topic due to the 'bad luck' it could bring. As someone who was born during the Hungry Ghost Festival, and have seen ghosts, I never once felt the fear of death in my life.

In fact, I wanted to challenge the idea that death may not need to be as taboo. It's a part of life, and an end we will all meet some day. The book aims to look at how the dead are immortalized through design, and talk about death in a casual conversation. It is a natural process, and we must come to terms with it some day... what does the dead say about this?
